Team Behind GV-Backed AI Evaluation Startup Context.ai Joins OpenAI

16.04.2025

OpenAI has hired the co-founders of Context.ai, a startup that built tools for evaluating and analyzing AI model performance. The startup announced it will shut down its products as part of the acqui-hire, with no public details shared about the deal’s terms.

Launched in 2023 by former Google employees Henry Scott-Green and Alex Gamble, Context.ai focused on helping developers better understand how their models were used and how well they performed. The company secured $3.5 million in seed funding from GV and Theory Ventures in its first year.

One of Context.ai’s key products was a dashboard that allowed users to monitor and interpret model output. Through an API, customers could submit transcripts for automatic analysis, including tagging and grouping by topic to better understand user interaction with AI systems.

“We spent two years building evaluations and analytics for models — with a few pivots along the way,” the founders shared in a message. “We’re excited for this next chapter at OpenAI.”

Scott-Green is now listed as a product manager at OpenAI focused on model evaluations. It’s not confirmed whether the full Context.ai team has joined OpenAI, but the founders say their goal remains the same: helping developers build more transparent, effective AI systems.
