Sony recently unveiled the PlayStation 5 Pro, a more powerful version of its current gaming console, which is scheduled to be released on November 7 at a price of $700. The launch comes during a time when the gaming industry has seen a dip in console sales, with Sony reporting a decrease in PS5 sales from 3.3 million units in the first fiscal quarter of the previous year to 2.4 million in the same period this year.
The PS5 Pro brings significant improvements in performance, starting with a graphics card that boasts 67% more compute units than the standard PS5 model. This upgrade allows the Pro version to deliver up to 45% faster rendering of games, offering a smoother and more responsive gaming experience. In addition, Sony has incorporated advanced artificial intelligence technology that enhances image quality by upscaling graphics, resulting in sharper visuals and more detailed environments.
Another key feature of the PS5 Pro is its advanced ray tracing capabilities, a sophisticated graphics technique that mimics the way light interacts with reflective surfaces, making for more realistic lighting effects in games.
Storage has also been upgraded, with the PS5 Pro offering a 2-terabyte solid-state drive (SSD), which is considerably larger than the 825 GB SSD found in the base PS5 model. The console will come with Sony’s DualSense Wireless Controller and will support the latest Wi-Fi 7 technology. However, an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive will be sold separately for those who want physical media support.
Sony also highlighted that several upcoming games will feature special optimizations for the PS5 Pro under the “PS5 Pro Enhanced” label. These games will take full advantage of the new hardware’s capabilities, offering better performance and visuals. Some of the titles that will receive this designation include *Alan Wake 2*, *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, *Demon’s Souls*, *Dragon’s Dogma 2*, *Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth*, *Gran Turismo 7*, *Hogwarts Legacy*, *Horizon Forbidden West*, *Marvel’s Spider-Man 2*, *Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart*, and *The Last of Us Part II Remastered*.
With these upgrades, the PS5 Pro aims to deliver a more immersive and visually stunning gaming experience, positioning itself as a strong contender in the next generation of gaming consoles.
