AI funding in the U.S. continues its rapid climb in 2025, following a record-setting 2024 in which 49 startups raised $100 million or more. So far, this year appears to be keeping pace, with several billion-dollar rounds already closed by mid-year. The momentum from last year hasn’t slowed—if anything, it’s accelerating.

OpenAI led the pack with a historic $40 billion round that pushed its valuation to $300 billion. Anthropic followed closely, securing $3.5 billion at a valuation of $61.5 billion. Other significant raises included Lambda’s $480 million Series D and Together AI’s $305 million Series B, reinforcing the heavy investor focus on infrastructure and foundational model platforms.

AI infrastructure remains a dominant theme. Companies like Celestial AI and TensorWave pulled in $250 million and $100 million, respectively. Defense and aerospace-focused Shield AI also made headlines with a $240 million round, reflecting growing interest in AI applications for national security and critical systems.

In the research and development space, Anysphere raised $900 million for its AI coding tool Cursor, while Turing and Snorkel AI brought in large rounds as well. Glean, an enterprise AI search platform, raised $150 million in June, lifting its valuation to $7.25 billion and further signaling investor appetite for productivity-enhancing AI tools.

The impact of AI is spreading beyond core tech sectors. Legal and healthcare-focused companies like Harvey, Eudia, and Abridge secured major rounds ranging from $105 million to $300 million. Meanwhile, synthetic voice developer ElevenLabs and life sciences innovator Lila Sciences raised $180 million and $200 million, respectively, underscoring AI’s growing influence across industries.
