Google's Stitch Brings AI-Powered Innovation to App Design

21.05.2025

At Google I/O 2025, Google introduced Stitch, an AI-powered tool aimed at simplifying the design of web and mobile app interfaces. Stitch allows users to generate UI components and the corresponding HTML and CSS code using short text prompts or images. The tool is powered by Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro and Gemini 2.5 Flash models, offering flexibility in performance and speed depending on the user’s needs.

Stitch is designed to support rapid prototyping and early-stage design work. It allows users to export projects directly to Figma and provides access to the generated code for further refinement in a preferred IDE. While it does not aim to replace full-scale design platforms like Figma or Adobe XD, it enables a smooth transition from idea to visual output with lightweight customization features.

The tool arrives in response to the growing popularity of AI-assisted development workflows, often referred to as “vibe coding.” In this space, Stitch offers a more accessible but slightly narrower set of capabilities compared to some competing platforms, making it ideal for quick iteration rather than complex design projects.

Google plans to enhance Stitch further by introducing functionality that lets users update UI elements through annotated screenshots. This upcoming feature is intended to make the design-editing process even more intuitive and user-friendly.

Stitch is part of Google’s broader push to integrate generative AI across the software development lifecycle. It joins other AI-driven tools like Jules, which assists with code maintenance and upgrades, reflecting Google’s vision of streamlining both design and development through intelligent automation.
